About Megan

Megan Carter is a UK-based Surface Pattern Designer known for her bold, stylized patterns that combine a modern sensibility with a love for design history. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, particularly flowers, Megan's work reflects a fresh interpretation of classic design motifs. She’s particularly inspired by the rich visual languages of the Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau, and the Wiener Werkstätte, often exploring historical patterns and paraphernalia to influence her contemporary designs.

Professional history

Megan earned a BA Honours in Surface Pattern Design from Staffordshire University in 2000, and over the next two decades, she honed her skills as an in-house greetings card designer with Hallmark Cards and UK Greetings. After 20 years in the industry, she transitioned to freelance work, where she has spent the past five years exploring new creative opportunities and collaborating with diverse projects in design. With a deep passion for both the past and the present, Megan continues to create visually striking, timeless designs that resonate with contemporary audiences.

Hand crafted

In 2022, Megan’s creativity expanded once again when she completed an online stencil printing course, discovering a new love for hand-printed fabric designs. After years of creating digital patterns, returning to a hands-on, slow-making technique has been a refreshing change. All her hand-printed designs are created using hand-cut stencils in her West Yorkshire studio, with a strong focus on sustainability. Megan uses eco-friendly printing inks to print onto certified organic fabrics to ensure that each piece is as environmentally conscious as it is beautiful.

Locally Made

Megan’s fabric products are made in collaboration with two talented local makers - Emma Patchett Upholstery and The Stitch Society. Alongside her hand-printed fabrics, Megan continues to design digital patterns which have been developed into a mini fabric collection, wrapping paper and notebooks. In contrast a collection of hand-painted decorative paintings have been applied to greetings cards which sit beautifully within her collection.

UK Based

All her digital designs are printed by a UK-based digital fabric printing company using organic fabrics and eco-friendly inks, while her paper goods are printed in collaboration with a UK-based printer that uses recycled, sustainably sourced materials.Thank you for supporting Megan’s work—she hopes her products bring a little burst of pattern and colour joy into your life!
